Planters Peanut In Fort Smith Commended For Sustainability

October 11, 2015

Sustainability and energy efficiency are nearly interchangeable in the realm of manufacturing.

Despite the up-front costs to become more efficient, businesses that reduce energy consumption and find uses for waste products often see a return on their investment while conserving resources, according to Drake McGruder, operations risk and commercialization manager at the Kraft-Heinz Planters Peanuts facility in Fort Smith.

The Fort Smith facility has set some important benchmarks this year: It became a “zero waste” for landfilled materials, reduced its energy consumption 11 percent from last year and reduced its water usage 20 percent.
